Resident Evil 4 Remake keeps players on the edge of their seats with its masterful blend of tense action and intricate environmental puzzles. Chapter 4 introduces one of the most memorable segments of the game, tasking Leon Kennedy with exploring a massive lake to uncover hidden shrines. To progress past this point and unlock the church doors, players must locate and solve two distinct stone pedestal puzzles to claim vital key items.

Navigating the Large Cave Shrine

The first major destination on the lake is the Large Cave Shrine, located in the southern portion of the map. Upon entering the cavern, you will encounter multiple waves of infected villagers guarding the ruins. After clearing out the threats, navigate the wooden scaffolding until you reach a large locked door connected to a symbol-based console.

To solve this mechanism, look around the immediate environment for yellow paint marks that align into specific icons from certain viewing angles. The correct combination requires you to press the buttons corresponding to the three hidden symbols found on the nearby cave walls and pillars. Inputting the correct icons will unlock the gate, allowing you to collect the Apostate Head needed for the main quest line.

Solving the Small Cave Shrine

After completing the first cavern, hop back into your motorized boat and navigate to the Small Cave Shrine tucked away in the northeastern corner of the lake. This location is much tighter and features a simple ladder leading up to a secondary stone pedestal. Just like the previous area, you will need to scan the walls to find fragmented yellow symbols painted across different surfaces.

By standing in the correct spot, these separate markings merge to reveal the correct button prompts for the console. Pressing the matching three icons on the stone dial will immediately open the locked door. Grab the Blasphemer Head from the altar before heading back out to your boat to finish the chapter's main objective.

Unlocking the Mural Cave Altar

With both stone heads safely tucked away in your inventory, sail back to the Mural Cave located near the central dock. Approach the primary altar mechanism where two headless pedestals await your newly acquired key items. Place both the Apostate Head and the Blasphemer Head onto the stone pillars to trigger the final mechanism.

This action rotates the grand pedestal and grants Leon the Insignia Key required to unlock the village church doors. Managing these environmental puzzles efficiently allows you to conserve resources for the difficult boss encounters ahead. Following these simple visual cues ensures a smooth journey through the darkest secrets of the lake region.
